An article about the Installation of a one-of-a-kind J79 with liquid nitrogen-cooled conic nozzle. Circa 1960. Very interesting!
Installing a J79 engine with a liquid nitrogen-cooled conic nozzle involves modifying the engine bay, mounting the engine, and integrating a liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling system, including an LN2 tank and piping carried underside of fuselage, to the plug nozzle, as demonstrated in an F-4A aircraft test program.
