Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Photos

Copies of very good photos of the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy collection of aircraft and missiles. Taken by Richard Powers. Great photography! Thanks Richard for sharing! Includes a fact sheet with each item!

From Richard:

“While in SF I was lucky enough to be assigned as engineering project manager to the design and construction of the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles Airport. We had full-time site presence during construction. Therefore, we were around when NASM was moving "artifacts" into the museum before the December 17, 2003 opening. Since I spent a lot of time there. after work I would wander the building with my camera taking photos of the construction and the artifacts.

The earliest photos are the Piper J-3, the "politically correct" first airplane to be brought into Hazy for display in March 2003. The latest photos were taken in December 2003 immediately before the grand opening on December 17.”
